Glenda Weinert was appointed to the Buncombe County Board of Education at the board’s June 6 meeting, filling the at-large seat vacated earlier this year. Glenda, who previously served as the chair of the Buncombe GOP, was selected from a pool of 27 applicants.
The selection process involved accepting applications from the general public followed by two weeks board members had requested for getting to know the
candidates through informal interviews. Amy Churchill and Kim Plemmons noted Glenda’s extensive involvement in the community and her leadership experience as significant factors in her candidacy for the seat.
We eagerly await Glenda’s response to questions we posed a month ago regarding her positions on critical issues affecting our schools. These include:
- School Systems Merger Study
- School board member redistricting
- Title IX rulings
- Parents Bill of Rights
Additionally, we look forward to Glenda’s contributions to the board and the positive impact she could have on our schools.
