PURPOSE:  This Committee is responsible for recommending yearly HCCBG and aging services funding.  They also (1) review provider spending and annual reporting and (2) discuss gaps within the aging services network.

COMMITTEE MEETINGS:  This committee meets monthly at 3:30 PM on the 4th Wednesday.

MEMBERSHIP:  County Commissioners appoint 11 members to this Committee:

  • Older adults should make up 1/3 of the committee (including Senior Tar Heel Legislator or alternate)
  • Individuals representing a broad range of diversity
  • Public and private providers of aging services
  • Elected Officials
  • Those with interest and concern for aging issues.

WHY WE WATCH:  We watch to understand whether the funds ($2.2 million in the previous funding period) are allocated to reliable and competent organizations who use the funds for the intended purposes.

MEETING MINUTES:  First Tuesday received copies of meeting minutes under a public records request for those meetings held from January through June of 2022.  They have now posted the July 27 meeting agenda and presentations on their webpage, and it does not appear that the meetings are recorded.

  • This meeting is held at the Land of Sky Regional Council (339 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville, NC, 28806), and the public is welcome to attend.
