Parents of school-age children in Buncombe County may welcome the passage of NC HB755 (the Parents’ Bill of Rights) by the NC Senate on June 1. Remember, though; we are in Buncombe County. You should know that the usual left-wing voices in local government, media and politics are working hard to rally their comrades to promote a narrative that labels the bill as North Carolina’s “Don’t Say Gay Bill.” Of course, our State Senator Mayfield voted against the bill, while Senator Edwards voted in favor. Mayoral candidate Kim Roney and transvestite city schools board member “Daisy” O’Conner could not wait to damn the bill’s passage. They were joined, of course, by an angry pack of WLOS liberal “journalists” and commentators.
Call to action! It’s the beginning of Pride month, when we honor civil rights leaders like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera of the Stonewall riots, so of course the NC General Assembly is rushing to pass harmful legislation like HB755—NC’s own Don’t Say Gay bill. pic.twitter.com/0RRlxe6hN1

A reasonable person might review the bill and wonder why it is necessary to codify these parental rights. Should we not be able to hold these truths as self-evident? Welcome to the new liberal world order. The bill includes measures such as:
- Parents must be informed of their legal rights and responsibilities regarding their child’s education.
- Kindergarten through third-grade public school curriculum will not include sexual orientation and gender identity instruction.
- Parents must be notified of changes in the name or pronoun used by their child at school.
- Parents will be notified of the health services offered at their child’s school at the beginning of each school year.
- Parents will be notified of any changes in services or monitoring of their child’s mental, emotional or physical health.
- Parents will be provided a pathway requesting materials related to in-class instruction.
According to Rev. Vance Haywood, senior pastor of St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church in Raleigh, the bill creates “…an environment where we’re telling folks that it’s not OK to be yourself. You have to hide parts of who you are.” While that is certainly an interesting left-wing spin, some of you might instead see an opportunity for educators to encourage children to talk to parents and other family members who have actual skin in the game.
We must prevent “educators” from fostering an environment in which children are being taught that they cannot and must not trust familial support systems. BLM advocates for the dismantlement of the nuclear family structure. That doesn’t mean educational systems should implement policies and practices to advance that insidious goal.
The Asheville City Schools Board is so outraged by the bill that they voted during a special meeting on June 30 to document their opposition as a matter of public record. It shouldn’t be long before we see declarations and proclamations from the other left-wing activists who run our city government, county government and county school board.
