The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States. Its members are building progressive movements for social change across the nation. Their website reminisces that “Bernie Sanders launched a political revolution and DSA continues to build it, training our chapters to effectively support democratic socialist candidates running for local and state office while lifting up our key issues.” They believe “Capitalism pits us against each other and workplaces are fundamentally authoritarian unless workers can self-organize and build collective power.”
The DSA’s Ecosocialist Working Group (The Green New Deal for Public Schools) plans to invest $1.4 trillion over ten years in America’s public K-12 schools to reverse “years of toxic neglect and systemic racism to build a healthy learning environment for every student—regardless of zip code—and the carbon-free, climate-resilient communities of tomorrow.”
Peruse their platform for yourself to see what they demand. You will see that there is very little difference between that platform and local leaders’ actions and stated objectives. Tales you have heard about socialist ideals are not exaggerated. It is then critical that you realize what is happening locally and in other Leftist-controlled cities and counties, including our federal government. Also, you should know that the very active Asheville chapter of DSA has deliberated and determined that City Councilwoman Kim Roney is the mayoral candidate best suited to advancing DSA’s platform in our home. Additionally, Asheville DSA is excited to announce its endorsement of hemp farmer, cannabis activist, and community organizer Taylon Breeden for North Carolina State Senate seat 49.
Use your vote and use it wisely. Only the top two vote-getters in the mayoral race get through to the November election. Vote for Cliff Feingold for mayor. Roney must be defeated in the primary, and you can help make that happen. If you live within the Asheville city limits, you can vote for Feingold and his City Council Candidate Teammates: Doug Brown, Alex Cobb and Andy Ledford. If you don’t live within the Asheville city limits, you can still send all four men some money to help their campaigns.
