Vote on Overriding Cooper’s Veto of HB 574 and HB 808 Rescheduled
Let legislators know that your values are inclusive and affirming. Tell your elected representatives you expect them to protect all children, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Republican leaders in the North Carolina House have rescheduled a vote on overriding Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of House Bills 574 and 808. The vote was originally scheduled for July 12, but was rescheduled for July 19 due to a large number of Republican House members who were absent from the chamber on that date.

It has been rescheduled again for Wednesday, August 9.

The bills, known as the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act and the Youth Health Protection Act, would respectively prohibit biological males from competing in women’s sports and restrict sex change treatments for minors. Cooper vetoed both bills on July 5.

The rescheduled vote gives supporters of the bills more time to contact their legislators and urge them to override the vetoes. First Tuesday, a conservative advocacy group, has launched an email petition campaign to encourage people to do so. As of this writing, the petition has only collected 68 signatures, compared to 901 signatures that the Campaign for Southern Equality, an LGBTQ+ advocacy group, has gathered.

If you support overriding Cooper’s vetoes, please sign First Tuesday’s petition and share it with your friends and family. It is important that we make our voices heard on this issue.

Call to action:

  • Sign First Tuesday’s petition to override Cooper’s vetoes.
  • Share the petition with your friends and family.
  • Contact your legislators by phone and urge them to override the vetoes.
