Candidate Filing to Resume February 24

Isn’t it about time that we replace the local liberal activists who currently occupy public office with some moderate or conservative representatives? To do that, we need to have some moderates and conservatives with whom to replace them.

We are fortunate that “Team Asheville” has stepped up to the plate as candidates for Asheville City Council and Mayor:

Dr. Cliff Feingold, Mayor
Doug Brown, City Council
Alex Cobb, City Council
Andy Ledford, City Council

The top 6 vote-getters in the May 17 primary for City Council and the top 2 vote-getters for Mayor will move on to the November election. Visit Team Asheville’s website to learn more about them and to contribute to their campaigns. While you do have to live within the Asheville city limits in order to vote for those offices, you can send campaign donations to city office candidates regardless of where you live!

You could run for one of the other offices that are opening in November 2022!  Think about it!  Could you honestly do a worse job than what those currently in charge have done?

Qualifications?

  • Must be a registered voter of the county.
  • Must be at least 21 years old on Election Day.
  • Where there is a district, must also reside within that district. (For example, candidates for the Buncombe County Board of Education and the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners).
  • Candidates for Municipal offices must reside within the municipality. (For example, city board of education).
  • Must be affiliated with a party for 90 days or more at the time of filing.
Those wishing to register as candidates for any of the following offices must do so by noon on Thursday, March 4, 2022.  Primaries for these offices will be held on May 17, to qualify to run in November’s general mid-term elections.

For more information, refer to the Buncombe County Election Services website.

City Council appointed the current Asheville City School Board members, but HB 400 now requires that the public elect these positions.  There are currently five board members, but the size will expand to a total of seven board members under this new law.  So, in 2022, Asheville voters will have two new board seats to fill.  Two current members (Shaunda Sandford and Vice-Chair Martha Geitner) will be up for election (and must be defeated).  While neither incumbent has yet registered for the coming election cycle, three Democrats and one Unaffiliated candidate have filed for the four open seats.  WE NEED SOME CONSERVATIVE AND MODERATE CANDIDATES FOR THESE SEATS.

We do not yet have a conservative or moderate candidate to oppose County Commissioner Al Whitesides in District 1. Who will step up?

Candidates for the offices below do not compete in a primary.  Candidate filing for these seats will not occur until the summer for November’s general elections. Visit the Buncombe County Election Services website for additional information.
