Amazon Frowns & Smiles

Amazon announced in a June 9 2020 press release that BLM is among 12 groups that would get a total of $10 million from the online retail giant.  Then, Amazon Web Services (AWS) decided to yank infrastructure services from Parler.  It’s little wonder conservatives have worked to wean themselves off of Amazon.

Since Amazon and other tech giants have wreaked havoc on the landscape of traditional retailers and entertainment enterprises, consumers often find it challenging to locate goods and services outside of the Amazon-fed corporatocracy.  Washington has exacerbated product scarcity with its response to covid, its need to reward donors and its very active campaign to buy votes for the 2022 midterm elections.  We get it.  It can be tough these days for consumers to easily procure products through traditional sources, and sometimes we can’t help but break down and order something we need from Amazon.

However, when compelled to make such a distasteful decision, be sure to go to smile.amazon.com on your web browser or activate AmazonSmile in the Amazon Shopping app on your iOS or Android phone within the Settings or Programs & Features menu.

You can choose from over one million eligible 501(c)(3) public charitable organizations.  Use this link to search for charities that you can designate.  We were surprised to see TP USA, The Leadership Institute and Wounded Warriors, and we were less surprised to see 119 different BLM organizations.

No, you won’t find First Tuesday listed among the eligible charities.  First Tuesday is classified as a 501(c)4 organization under the Internal revenue Code.  Contributions to First Tuesday Conservatives – Asheville, Inc. are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes.
