Are conservatives starting to learn how to fight for themselves?
Just last month, we were watching yet another inbound blue wave of candidates for Asheville city elected offices. During the brief two days of candidate filings in December, we saw only one conservative candidate (Alex Cobb) formally announce his candidacy for City Council. Then, Doug Brown announced his candidacy during the January 11 city council meeting, and Andy Ledford has also now thrown his hat in the ring. So, we now have THREE conservative candidates for the three open city council seats!
Only the incompetent incumbent had filed for the mayoral race during the interrupted filing period last month. Fortunately, we now have an alternative – Dr. Cliff Feingold has announced an intent to file his candidacy for that office!
Candidate filing for North Carolina’s 2022 primary elections and rescheduled municipal elections will resume at 8 a.m. Thursday, February 24, and end at noon on Friday, March 4, under an order issued by the Superior Court of Wake County. Take another look at our December 15 newsletter for information on other offices of interest to Buncombe County residents CITIZENS.
What else gives us hope?
Have you heard about the East Asheville for Safety and Wellness Facebook group? This group gathered sixty “everyday citizens” to meet with local government representatives and discuss rampant public drug abuse, mountains of garbage, and crime in their neighborhoods near Tunnel Road and the Ramada Homeless Residence.
The group has also energized its members to speak up for their children with area school officials and to participate in trash clean-ups in the area. If you are interested in contacting this group but are not a Facebook person, reach out to First Tuesday, and we’ll help you make contact.
The US Supreme Court recently ruled against the Biden administration’s demand that employers with more than 100 hundred employees mandate the jab for their employees. There is also hope that the Court may overturn Roe v Wade after it upheld a Texas law prohibiting abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected (usually by around six weeks) in the unborn child.
In November, we reported to you on City Council’s decision to use taxpayer dollars to fund a scholarship fund based on skin color. In that post, we also told you how local conservative Dr. Carl Mumpower (WNC Citizens for Equality) had teamed up with Tom Fitton’s Judicial Watch to sue the city for this blatant racial discrimination. Mumpower’s effort was successful! At their January 11 meeting, Asheville City Council quietly passed a consent agenda item to amend the scholarship criteria to eliminate race-based requirements.
Many of you contacted Senators Tillis and Burr to help keep them on the narrow path to defeat Democrat bids to kill the filibuster and pass an unconstitutional set of federal rules governing state election laws. Yet another success for conservatives!
This is what can happen when enough of us stop licking our wounds from the 2020 election results and begin again to stand up for ourselves and our freedoms. Take a moment to pat yourselves on the back. But then it is necessary to get back to work. The ability to defeat the forces of evil that have taken over our government is within us. Just look at what we’ve accomplished in only the past six weeks!
